If you are new to condominium living in Calgary, the main thing to remember is that a condominium can be considered to have two parts. The first is the private areas, usually referred to as “units”. Each is owned by the purchaser of the unit and is registered in his or her name. The second part is the common or shared areas of the building and this may include the lobby, halls, elevators, recreational facilities, paths, gardens, etc. Shared elements may also include structural elements and mechanical and electrical services.
A condominium might be a high-rise or low-rise (under four storeys) building, a town or row house, a duplex, triplexes or even a single-detached home. There are even mixed-used condominiums that are partly residential and partly commercial buildings. They come in various sizes with diverse features and they can be found in almost every price range.
