AIRDRIE - Alberta is located just 15 minutes north of Calgary. It was first established as a railway village in 1889 during the construction of the Calgary and Edmonton Railway. Boosted by single family sales activity, year-to-date September 2012, Airdrie sales totaled 933, a 31-per-cent increase over 2011. The rise in sales combined with the decline in new listings contributed to the decline in the total inventory levels, bringing the market into more balanced conditions.
Unadjusted single family benchmark home prices leveled off at 338,600 in September 2012, a four-per-cent rise over 2011, but seven-per-cent below the highs recorded five years ago. Improved demand in the city has been in part due to the availability of affordable single family homes relative to single family homes within the city of Calgary.
